Black History Month 2022
Black History Month, or African-American History Month, celebrated each February in the United States, provides an opportunity to recognize and honor the achievements African Americans have made to the nation and the world.
Baylor College of Medicine will mark Black History Month with a number of activities and highlight African-American trailblazers in medicine and science on our social media.
2022 Observation Events
The following events take place in celebration of Black History Month in 2022:
Feb. 15, 2022, 12-1 p.m.: The Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Center of Excellence in Health Equity, Training, and Research Grand Rounds present a talk on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 12 p.m., by Dr. Amber E. Johnson, Assistant Professor, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She will talk about how workforce diversification can solve our health equity crisis.

Feb. 15, 2022, 7-8:15 p.m.: The Department of Molecular and Human Genetics and Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion present an Evening with Genetics talk on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 7-8:15 p.m., by Vence L Bonham, Jr., J.D., Acting Deputy Director & Associate Investigator, Social and Behavioral Research Branch, National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of health; and Fatimah Jackson, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Biology & Former Director, Cobb Research Laboratory, Howard University. Feb. 22, 2022, 12-1 p.m.: The Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Center of Excellence in Health Equity, Training, and Research Grand Rounds present a talk on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 12 p.m., by Alicia D.H. Monroe, M.D., Provost and Senior Vice President of Academics and Faculty Affairs; Jose Ribas Roca, M.D., Assistant Professor, Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences; and John Saunders, M.D., M.S., Associate Professor, Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Feb. 22, 2022, 5 p.m.: The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are hosting Dr. Taison Bell, MD, MBA, for a Compassionate Conversations for Change titled, "Can You Hear Me? Finding and Trusting Your Voice in a Pandemic". Dr. Bell is an assistant professor of medicine in the divisions of Infectious Diseases and International Health and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Virginia. Feb 25, 2022, 12-1 p.m.: In celebration of Black History Month, the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will host a poetry reading celebrating Black poets and writers. This virtual event is open to everyone. Register here.
