About the Program: Baylor College of Medicine’s Health Equity Grand Rounds Series is sponsored by the Center of Excellence in Health Equity, Training and Research in collaboration with the Office of Community Engagement & Health Equity and other Baylor departments, schools and academic centers. Physicians, residents, fellows, medical students and other healthcare providers in every area of practice will potentially encounter health and healthcare equity issues. A universal need for these providers is to provide a forum to address issues such as health disparities, social determinants of health, cultural/linguistic competency, and social justice. This series is designed to provide healthcare providers an awareness and strategies to address these issues when they arise.
Objectives: Following the conclusion of this activity, participants will be better able to:
- Identify specific diseases that disproportionately affect underserved and vulnerable populations;
- Describe the role of social determinants of health across the lifespan;
- Explain effective education, research, clinical care and community outreach solutions for improving health equity; and
- Understand evidence-based, methodological approaches for addressing policy, quality improvement, and assessment issues associated with mitigating health and healthcare inequities.
Target Audience, Needs, Educational Methods, Activity Evaluation: Faculty (including physicians), residents, fellows, medical students, health professions students, healthcare team members from affiliate hospitals (including social workers and public health officials) and other interested persons need to be regularly updated on issues associated with health and healthcare equity. Educational methods will include lectures and Question & Answer sessions. Participants will be asked to complete an activity evaluation.
Accreditation/Credit Designation: Baylor College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Baylor College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
