Professional Statement
Dr. Sanches is a board-certified psychiatrist with specific interests in mood disorders, psychopathology, and medical education. He is currently a Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, and an Attending Psychiatrist at the Menninger Clinic, where he is also the Director of Research Education and the Director of Medical Student Education. Prior to joining Baylor, Dr. Sanches was an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the UT Health McGovern Medical School, the Director of the Research Track Psychiatry Residency Program, and the Associate Director of the UT Center of Excellence on Mood Disorders. He originally completed my psychiatric training in Brazil and started his academic career at his alma mater, where he occupied different leadership positions, having worked as a residency director, undergraduate course director, and division chief. After moving to the United States, he completed a new residency training at UT Health Houston, and achieved board-certification in the US. Dr. Sanches has extensive teaching and research experience, having authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, as well as numerous book chapters and abstracts. His previous and current activities reflect his different interests in mood disorders, psychopathology, and medical education. Dr. Sanches is also very interested in the limits between psychopathology and normality, having lectured often at local, national, and international meetings on different topics, including mood disorders, psychopathology, and the interface between psychiatry, humanities, and creativity. He is currently an Associate Editor of the journals Minerva Psychiatry and Debates in Psychiatry and is on the editorial board of several journals, including Psychopathology and the Journal of Affective Disorders.Websites
