Protein Crystallography Facility

Master
Content

The protein crystallography facility in the Verna and Marrs McLean Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology provides a centralized, state-of-the-art resource for the acquisition of atomic resolution, 3D structure information of proteins, nucleic acids, and their functional complexes.

Data acquisition is based on the single crystal X-ray diffraction technique and requires diffracting 3D crystals. The facility features a Rigaku FR-E+ SuperBright microfocus rotating anode generator with VariMax HF optics, in addition to the necessary computer software and hardware for data collection, data processing, and finding structure solutions by the molecular replacement or the isomorphous replacement technique from data collected at a fixed wavelength.

Services offered include project development and consultation (including how to obtain 3D crystals), assisted data collection and data processing, as well as a complete structure solution package.

The facility is open to members of Baylor College of Medicine and its affiliated institutions through collaboration with the managing director. For further information, please contact Dr. Sukyeong Lee.
