Third Dose for Immunocompromised Individuals
On Aug. 13, 2021, the CDC published recommendations that people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised should receive an additional third dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine 28 days after receiving the primary two dose series.
- A third dose of the Pfizer vaccine is authorized for people 12 years and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised
- A third dose of the Moderna vaccine is authorized for people 18 years and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised.
About 2.7 percent of Americans have a condition or receive treatment that meets this definition. More details can be found here: COVID-19 Vaccines for Immunocompromised People.
Please note the third dose is different than the booster dose.
