Dear Members of the Baylor College of Medicine Community,
In this week’s video, I answer many of the questions you have asked in recent weeks. Topics include variants, vaccines, boosters, treatments and herd immunity.
Some experts are now talking about the pandemic being at an end. I am not ready to say that yet, but we are getting closer. The worldwide case count is decreasing because of two main factors - about a third of the population has been infected and about half vaccinated.
Do you need to wear a mask? Do what is comfortable for you. I am no longer wearing a mask indoors, but I will continue to mask up for air travel and in crowded venues. It is important to follow the level of infections in the community (or follow my updates and I will tell you). Right now I am pretty comfortable that the viral burden in the community is low.
If you have questions not addressed this week, please send to president@bcm.edu.
Hope you have a great weekend. Stay safe.
