Dear Members of the Baylor College of Medicine Community,
It has been a busy week, with lots of news concerning COVID-19. In this week’s video, I update several of the clinical trials that are ongoing. Three have been paused to determine whether there are any side effects but the treatment options look promising. It is important to note that none of the research has been presented in a peer-reviewed journal at this point, but we are hopeful.
Also in the message this week is some advice about the holidays – beginning with Halloween. The main thing to consider is although we are learning a lot about the virus as a medical community, the virus has not changed. It is still with us. Gatherings need to be limited. Precautions must be taken. I have received enough information on what airlines are doing to feel that flying in a Boeing 737 is safe because of the air flow system.
The College also congratulates Dr. Kenneth Liao on his 100th robotic heart procedure – there’s a video included that speaks to the amazing work he is doing.
Be safe, wear a mask and be sure to vote.
