Nephrology Fellowship Wellness and Work-Life Balance

We take wellness seriously! We appoint a faculty and fellow wellness team each year to coordinate get-togethers, picnics, outings, and special events. Drs. Vishnu Reddy and Sehrish Ali are our Wellness Chairs for 2021-22. Our program prides itself on collegiality, and you will see photos from our get-togethers throughout the website. While our current activities are socially distanced and online, we will resume picnics, happy hours, and sports outings as soon as possible!

Weekend Call: In 2020-21, each fellow worked approximately 20 weekends per year. During weekend coverage, fellows only work at the hospital they cover during the week, and this maintains continuity of care.

Fellowship Perks... by the Numbers!

Our fellows receive ample support from the Texas Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine. Every trainee has access to the TMC library, which provides electronic access to thousands of journals and all major textbooks.

Fellows receive $1200 each year to use for conferences and/or educational material. All conference abstract fees are paid separately, by the Section of Nephrology. Each trainee has 15 vacation days and nine personal time-off days (conferences, interviews). Fellows are NOT required to find cross-coverage for clinical responsibilities while on leave. Each fellow receives seven textbooks on day one. Fellows are encouraged to attend more than one conference per year, some of which are supported by external grants. Each fellow will receive free membership to the National Kidney Foundation and American Society of Nephrology. The opportunity to work in this collegial atmosphere is priceless.
