Resident Scholarship Curriculum

Content

Residents are each expected to complete a scholarly project during their residency at BCM-CHRISTUS Children’s. The resident scholarship curriculum is a longitudinal curriculum that spans multiple years of training and includes a minimum of four weeks protected time to conduct scholarly projects. Core content includes education in appraisal of literature, qualities of effective scholarship, survey design, effective presentation skills, quality improvement methodology, human subjects protections, and scholarly writing.

Individualized resident scholarship may take the form of research studies, quality improvement/patient safety initiatives, advocacy projects, and educational interventions. Each resident selects a domain of scholarship, project idea, and mentor based on individual goals and interests. Our faculty provide guidance in topic selection and encourage projects to be completed and disseminated in the form of local, regional, and national abstract presentations, as well as in the form of published products.

Our residents and chief residents have published many of their studies and case reports in the peer-reviewed literature. Below is a selection of publications from some of our current residents and recent graduates, with names of resident authors bolded.
