Professional Statement
Recent technological advances have made epidemiological research multifaceted. Hence, it is imperative to use multidisciplinary approach to maximise one’s performance in public health and preventive medicine. Novel and breakthrough results are often obtained by looking beyond one’s area of expertise and by bridging gap between different disciplines. Through observations in clinical set-ups, and by understanding and applying various analytical techniques in biostatistics, designs in epidemiology, laboratory techniques in basic sciences, as well as theories in social sciences, it is possible to obtain novel results, and identify and solve complex public health problems. I have a firm belief that multi-dimensional approach is the most important aspect of primary care research that I would like to impart and execute in both developed and low resource settings.Websites

Patterns of Infectious Disease and Cancer: Syed Ahsan Raza Fights Disease through Epidemiology
The potentially fatal impact of tetanus on mothers and infants is a serious issue in developing countries. Dr Syed Ahsan Raza at Baylor College of Medicine and Dr Bilal Avan at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have recently published their perspectives and insights into this important issue.
