About the Program

Content

The Baylor College of Medicine Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship is a progressive, broadly oriented, fully accredited fellowship that provides an opportunity to study the emergency care of children from infancy through adolescence, and in some instances, into adulthood.

PEM fellowship is administered through Baylor and is conducted at the affiliated medical facilities of the school. While most PEM fellows' clinical rotations occur at Texas Children's Hospital main campus, some rotations are conducted at Ben Taub General Hospital and the University of Texas Memorial Hermann Hospital. With the exception of Texas Children’s Hospital – West Campus located 30 minutes west of the medical center, all of the above institutions are located within the Texas Medical Center, and are within walking distance of each other.

Weekly didactic conferences exist for the further education of the fellows and division members. Fellows' times are protected such that they are never scheduled to work clinical shifts during times preceding and coinciding with conferences.

Fellows may also pursue master's degrees in business administration, education, epidemiology, or public health during their fellowship. For candidates interested in global health work, a Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM)/Global Health combined fellowship is available and global health opportunities are available for all of our PEM fellows.

The Baylor PEM division faculty includes pediatric emergency medicine subspecialists, and general pediatricians. All pediatric subspecialty areas and clinical services are well represented at Texas Children's, with most services providing 24/7 coverage for the Emergency Center.

The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine attracts leading fellowship candidates each year. Our fellowship includes robust, diverse clinical environments, an extremely strong and structured research and didactic curriculum, and incredible opportunities for professional growth in all domains. Our diverse fellowship graduates go on to successful careers in many areas of academic PEM, community PEM, global health, advocacy, education, quality improvement, pediatric point of care ultrasound, simulation and leadership.
