Professionalism

Content

Although most faculty, housestaff and clinical staff function within reasonable standards of professionalism, there is a need to clarify expectations for reporting and management of disruptive events that do occur. To support this process, we will:

  • Require housestaff and faculty to complete modules on key principles of professionalism, including honesty, integrity and mistreatment, to include a signed attestation of completion and compliance with established institutional codes of conduct;
  • Implement a central professional development series for housestaff and faculty focused on clinical priorities in professionalism, including medical documentation, ethical billing/coding, cultural sensitivity, and professional exam preparation;
  • Define a “Pathway for Professionalism” reporting, to include a clear process both centrally and at affiliate sites, in alignment with institutional policies.
