Dr. Subhasis Chatterjee, assistant professor of surgery in the Divisions of General and Cardiothoracic Surgery, has been appointed to the Editorial Board of the  Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (JTCVS). Dr. Chatterjee joins five other surgeons from the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, on this board including, Drs. Joseph Coselli,  Ourania Preventza,  Bryan Burt,  Sean Groth, and R. Taylor Ripley.  As stated on their website, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery presents original, peer-reviewed articles on diseases of the heart, great vessels, lungs and thorax with emphasis on surgical interventions. An official publication of The American Association for Thoracic Surgery and The Western Thoracic Surgical Association, the Journal focuses on techniques and developments in acquired cardiac surgery, congenital cardiac repair, thoracic procedures, heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support and other procedures.

Dr. Subhasis Chatterjee also serves as director of the Thoracic Surgical ICU & ECMO Program at Texas Heart Institute and Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center.  His basic science areas of investigation included an NIH-sponsored grant for gene therapy in ischemia-reperfusion injury after myocardial infarction. He has participated and served as an investigator in a number of clinical trials. His clinical focus in research is in the management of ECMO and mechanical circulatory support devices, the perioperative management after thoracic aortic and complex cardiothoracic surgery, disparities in healthcare, and critical care scoring systems as it applies in the care of cardiothoracic surgical patients.
