Professional Statement

Dr. Luke Gilman is a radiologist specializing in breast imaging at Baylor College of Medicine. His expertise is in mammography, breast ultrasound, and MRI as well as performing breast procedures. He enjoys working closely as part of a team of experts including breast oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, and radiation oncologists in order to provide patient centered comprehensive care. He cares for patients at the Dan Duncan Cancer Center at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center McNair campus as well as at Smith Clinic, part of the Harris Health System.

Prior to his career as a breast radiologist, he served as a Medical Officer in the US Navy supervising the medical department on a warship as well as training and supervising providers on shore. This experience provided Dr. Gilman with excellent leadership skills, attention to detail, and diverse experiences which have added to his professional skills.

Dr. Gilman chose to pursue a career as a breast radiologist in part due to his own personal experience as the husband of a breast cancer survivor. Being a caregiver to a breast cancer patient gives him a unique perspective as he now works with patients fighting battles similar to those once faced by his own family. He firmly believes in treating each of his patients as if they were a family member.

Dr. Gilman is also very active in teaching the future generation of radiologists. He currently serves as an Associate Program Director of the Diagnostic Radiology residency program at Baylor College of Medicine, manages the breast imaging rotation for residents at Smith clinic, and works closely with fellows in training. He strives to instill proficient procedural skills, clinical efficiency and accuracy, and aims to model compassion and empathy in all the trainees he works with each day.
