Our research team investigates the regulation of cellular exchanges within complex tissue-level landscapes from the context of both breast development and breast cancer progression. Using Wnt/Wingless pathway biology as a framework, we study how intercellular communication among cellular communities takes place and how normal developmental programs go awry during cancer progression. Our studies span the investigation of branching morphogenesis and cell fate decisions in normal mammary development and extend to the exploration of coordinated cellular interactions facilitating metastatic progression in breast cancer. We use both in vitro 3D organoid models, in vivo syngeneic mouse models, and patient-derived specimens to pursue these questions.
