Our Commitment
In line with the institutional mission, vision, and values of Baylor College of Medicine, the Henry JN Taub Department of Emergency Medicine strives to promote an equitable and engaging work environment. Equitable excellence is a vital component of our institutional culture.
We are committed to the recruitment and development of a workforce in emergency medicine that provides high-quality, culturally-sensitive, patient-centered care; to conduct research that aims to eliminate health disparities; to provide service through community engagement initiatives; and to provide education and training of emergency physicians through an equity and social justice lens.
Our Division of Health Equity and Community Engagement was established to work towards achieving health equity and dismantling structural racism in academic emergency medicine through clinical practice, research, community engagement, and education.

Health Equity Pillars
Awareness Events
We value all our department members and seek to promote a wide range of social identity groups through initiatives and events to acknowledge many celebrations. These events are colloquially called IDEAS n’ Chill. IDEAS stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-racism, and Social Justice. Many of our gatherings include documentary screenings, trips to local cultural locations, and various culinary experiences.
Highlighting Baylor's Equity
Baylor promotes a culture where all people are welcome. Our faculty, staff and students describe what equity means to them in the workplace, in science and medicine and on a personal level.
