Educating the next generation of clinician scholars is a primary focus of the division. We are proud to have an APA accredited pre-doctoral psychology internship led by Dr. Phuong Nguyen. The internship places interns at each of the affiliate sites, as well as TIRR Memorial Hermann. A robust postdoctoral fellowship also exists with fellows conducting research and clinical care in the context of completing their training.

Areas of scholarship include human trafficking, OCD, depression, service delivery models, health psychology, and severe and persistent mental illnesses. The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center also has a psychology training program directed by Dr. Ellen Teng. Sponsored through the VA Office of Academic Affiliations, this program uses a clinician-research training model for its APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship, post-doctoral fellowship, and a 2-year clinical neuropsychology residency.  Trainees complete all rotations at the MEDVAMC, with clinical specializations in specific areas and are actively involved in research (e.g., South Central MIRECC at the Michael E. DeBakey VA).
