Reflecting an increasing focus on cancer diagnosis and treatment, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston offers a one-year Breast Imaging Fellowship under the instruction of specially trained radiologists whose clinical and research interests lie within breast imaging. The program follows the guidelines set by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI). The goal for each fellow is to attain skills which will be utilized in the effort to decrease breast cancer morbidity and mortality.

There is a broad exposure to breast imaging, including digital mammography (diagnostic and screening), tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound (diagnostic and screening techniques) and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The interventional service includes mammography and ultrasound guided preoperative needle localizations, core biopsies with stereotactic, tomosynthesis, ultrasound and MRI guidance and axillary node sampling with core techniques. We perform approximately 60,000 breast-related imaging examinations annually including the private practice sites and the Harris Health System, all located in the largest medical center in the world. Baylor Clinic is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of three such centers in the state of Texas.

As imaging is the foundation for a multidisciplinary approach to breast care, the fellow will be integrated into the Baylor breast health care team, which includes breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and breast pathologists. For all involved, empathetic patient care and interaction is emphasized and practiced. Breast imaging fellows will actively participate in weekly multidisciplinary breast conferences.

Currently, one 12-month fellowship position is offered annually. All breast imaging fellows are offered one month of multidisciplinary rotation including breast oncology, breast surgery, radiotherapy, and pathology.
