Section Overview
The Section of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine focuses on education, research, and healthcare related to the liver, pancreas, and biliary disorders. As part of the NCI-Designated Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center, we are at the forefront of cutting-edge research and treatment options in cancer care. We also specialize in robotic procedures and focus on some of the newest, most innovative techniques to provide our patients with the highest quality of care. The pancreatic clinical research program has led two NIH-funded investigator-initiated multicenter randomized clinical trials that impacted the use of drains during pancreatectomy, and the consequent development of a multicenter pancreatic surgery outcomes consortium. Our basic science lab has studied the influence of gastrointestinal hormones on pancreatic cancer growth, the relationship between diabetes and pancreatic cancer, and genomic analysis of pancreatic cancer, resulting in hundreds of peer-reviewed publications.
