Strong Showing at 2021 APMA Annual Meeting
The Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Baylor College of Medicine, along with the Interdisciplinary Consortium on Advanced Motion Performance (iCAMP) had a strong presence at the 2021 American Podiatric Medical Association Annual Meeting held in Denver, Colorado.
Dr. Catherine Park, postdoctoral fellow at iCAMP, won the Best Poster Presentation Award at the 2021 American Podiatric Medical Association’s national meeting. Her project was titled, “Smart Offloading System with Remote Patient Monitoring to Improve Adherence and Manage Dosage of Safe Weight-Bearing Activities for Diabetic Foot Ulcer Patients.” Through her project, Dr. Park introduced a smart removable offloading system with an adherence reinforcement component and remote patient monitoring portal which could assist in personalizing wound care for people with diabetic foot ulcers. Co-authors include, Dr. Bijan Najafi, Dr. Ram Kinker Mishra, Dr. Gu Kang, Davide Viagno, Karen D’Huyvetter, Dr. Jeffery Rankin, and Dr. David Armstrong.
This project is a joint collaboration between Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Southern California with funding coming from an R01 Grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diabetes.
Dr. Alejandro Zulbaran-Rojas, research assistant in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, has won third place for the Best Outstanding Poster Award for his project titled, “A Practical Solution on Daily Use of Electrical Stimulation Therapy to Prevent ICU-Acquired Weakness in Critically-Ill ICU Patients with Severe COVID-19 Infection.” Co-authors include, Dr. Ramkinker Mishra, Dr. Brian Lepow, Naima Rodriguez, Dr. Muhammad Siddique, Dr. James Herlihy, and Dr. Bijan Najafi. In addition, Dr. Zulbaran performed two 10-minute lectures in the oral presentation competition, where only six presentations out of 137 abstracts were selected. All studies were a result of the interdisciplinary work led by Dr. Najafi and Dr. Lepow. Other close supervisors included, Dr. Miguel Montero and Dr. Jeffrey Ross.
