Professional Statement
I am a social and mental health services expert with over 25 years of experience in both social work and medical academia, as well as in public and non-profit organizations. In my current position at BCM, I engage in provision of mental health services, forensic evaluations and reports, integrated health care, behavioral health consulting, grant implementation, community outreach, strategic planning of programs, report writing, design and implementation of trainings, conference presentations, academic writings, and other scholarly activities.My broad experience has also included: child welfare, curriculum design and teaching undergraduate and graduate social work students, supervision of students’ placements, leading academic and professional committees, research design and implementation, and contributions to the media on mental health topics.
As a clinical social worker, I treat anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, and different conditions as a result of trauma (childhood and other types). I am an EMDR certified therapist and trained in MBSR and TBRI. I use a holistic approach depending on each person's condition, from Psychodynamic and CBT to Mindfulness and ACT, among other approaches. I always suggest Eco-therapy, exercise, and stress the food and mood connection in my approach to wellbeing. I am also a yoga and mindfulness practitioner.
