Professional Statement
Dr. Swathi Balaji joined Baylor College of Medicine as an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery. She has a broad academic and research background in Bioengineering and Regenerative and Translational medicine. Her current research interests are to understand the underlying mechanisms of how the fetus heals cutaneous wounds without scar and translate the findings to achieve postnatal regenerative tissue repair in various organ systems. Dr. Balaji received her doctoral degree in bioengineering from University of Cincinnati and did her postdoctoral training in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
