Baylor College of Medicine is committed to the values of integrity, respect, teamwork, innovation, and excellence. When everyone at the College lives these values we create a culture that supports all members of our community to thrive personally and professionally. Creating and sustaining a culture that reflects our values is the responsibility of each of every individual at the College.

Interpersonal Challenges

Content

If you experience or witness an interpersonal interaction that does not live up to our shared values, the first recourse should always be to try to discuss your concerns with the person or people directly involved. If this is not feasible or does not resolve the situation, consider speaking with an individual with a higher level of authority.

Confidential Problem Solving and Dispute Resolution
If the situation remains unresolved, you may want to consider a visit to the Ombuds Office. The Ombuds Office is a confidential, informal, independent, and neutral place to discuss concerns, resolve disputes, manage conflicts, and increase skills regarding communication, negotiation and problem solving. You may reach out to the Ombuds Office as a first step, a last resort, or at any point along the way. You may also reach out anytime you would like to discuss something confidentially and aren’t sure where to go. Visit the Ombuds Office website to learn more about what an ombuds is and how an ombuds may be able to help you.

Filing a Grievance
To formally report a concern, issue or grievance, contact the Integrity Hotline at (855) 764-7294 or visit http://bcm.ethicspoint.com. The hotline is staffed 24/7 and reports can be anonymous at your request. All reports are confidential. Students may also want to visit the Student Grievances website for additional information specific to their needs that may be helpful prior to contacting the Integrity Hotline.

Reports made to through the Integrity Hotline are triaged to the appropriate department or individuals within Baylor to investigate and determine appropriate actions. This may include, but is not limited to the Compliance Office, Human Resources, the Provosts Office, a dean’s office, a department chair’s office or the Center for Professionalism. An Integrity Hotline outcomes report is available (Baylor login required).

Professionalism Concerns
Reports to the Integrity Hotline related to lapses in professionalism may be referred to the Center for Professionalism. When professionalism lapses are reported to the Center for Professionalism directly (713-798-4553) or through the Integrity Hotline, each report is evaluated to determine the level of intervention required. Every concern reported is taken seriously and results in some form of intervention. A report on the center’s activities is available on its Intranet site.

Sexual Harassment or Sexual Violence
View Title IX and Gender Discrimination for information on resources and support available for anyone dealing with these issues or individuals seeking information on how to support a friend, family member or co-worker.

Regardless of the avenue you seek for guidance and support, Baylor has a no retaliation policy for all reports made in good faith.
