Possible Signs
Present about one to two months after sex. A person may have flu-like symptoms that soon disappear. Years later, these symptoms may appear:
- Swollen glands
- Fatigue
- Night sweats
- Hard-to-treat oral or vaginal yeast infection
- Diarrhea
These symptoms in a person with HIV usually mean he or she is beginning to develop AIDS.
Possible Results
May lead to the development of AIDS, the body’s inability to fight infections and cancers. Death.
Treatment
There is no cure for HIV, but proper treatment can extend life for many years.
Additional Information
You cannot get HIV through the air or from casual contact. HIV is not spread by: living, working, going to school with someone that is HIV positive, shaking hands, kissing, hugging, sneezing, coughing, sharing food, plates, cups or forks, toilets, tubs, swimming pools, mosquitoes, or other insects.
