About the Program
The Baylor College of Medicine Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department is home to a top-tier residency program based in the heart of the world's largest medical center. Our program is fully accredited by the ACGME and provides our residents with the tools to be leaders in the field of physiatry. We achieve this by offering an educational program focused on providing our residents with a comprehensive education in the current standards of PM&R and providing them with the tools to be lifelong learners in an evolving field.
Our residents rotate at seven hospitals across the Texas Medical Center, allowing for exposure to a wide variety of training environments, including a county hospital system, a private hospital system, a VA, and a pediatric hospital. Our program has a nationally recognized group of faculty who are dedicated to teaching residents. Most of our clinical rotations have a one-on-one resident to faculty ratio, offering ample opportunities for close clinical mentorship. Many of our faculty have written and edited physiatric textbooks, served on the boards of national associations, and helped advance physiatric medicine through their research. Please see the following links for a full list of our faculty members and more information on our curriculum.
Each Post Graduate Year (PGY) class includes eight residents. We strive to recruit residents from different backgrounds, allowing opportunities for residents to learn from those with distinct viewpoints and experiences while also finding complementary strengths and goals. Our program is large enough to allow residents to foster a sense of belonging in a larger network while being small enough for residents to stand out as individuals. Within the context of the opportunities that come with training within a large, well-established network, we strive to provide residents with individualized educational experiences tailored to each resident’s professional goals.
Our graduates are successful in achieving their post-graduation goals, including competitive fellowships and faculty appointments in the private and public sectors. This broad-reaching network of alumni serves as an additional resource for our current residents as they pursue the career they envision.
We are fortunate to be in Houston, Texas, which serves as a friendly, affordable, and exciting environment in which to live during residency!
