Welcome to the Verna and Marrs McLean Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Baylor College of Medicine. Our mission is to be an internationally recognized community of scientists advancing fundamental knowledge of cellular processes at the molecular level and developing small molecules to modulate those processes. We aim to translate our basic science discoveries into impactful therapeutics for combating cancer, neurodegeneration, and infectious diseases.
We are a growing, vibrant department with 30 tenured and tenure-track faculty as well as several research faculty and joint appointees. The department has recruited seven new tenure-track faculty members in the past five years and will be actively recruiting for the next several years. We are committed to developing a diverse, collaborative faculty working in a productive, welcoming environment.
The department is actively involved in the education of medical students and graduate students. Our faculty actively participate in the Chemical, Physical & Structural Biology Graduate Program. Our goal is to equip students with cutting-edge technical skills and the depth of knowledge required to investigate emerging fundamental and disease-associated questions in biology. We are also committed to training postdoctoral fellows to provide the expertise and tools to advance to the next step of their careers.
Thank you for visiting our website, and I encourage you to explore our faculty's wide range of research interests.
