We accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) web portal. The ERAS portal is part of the Association of American Medical Colleges. The fellowship match is conducted by the National Resident Matching Program through its “Specialties Matching Service.” The Baylor College of Medicine International Services Office can answer specific questions for applicants on visa. Applicants must have completed an internal medicine residency program from an accredited institution.

The Section of Nephrology at Baylor College of Medicine has a total of 10 fellowship slots. The goal of this program is to prepare individuals for academic or private practice careers with broad clinical training in nephrology.

Our program is nationally recognized and highly competitive; each year we receive an average of 150 applications. Our faculty serves at the highest levels of many national organizations, including the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes, the American Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation. Fellows matriculate into one of two tracks: two year clinical track or three year mentored research track.

If accepted to the three-year mentored research fellowship, the second and third year of the fellowship will be research focused, with limited clinical exposure, and will provide the opportunity to complete an advanced research degree (Masters in Clinical Investigation). During this period, the mentor and trainee will apply for external funding. For example, former fellow and current faculty, Dr. Michael Holliday received the prestigious George Rathmann Fellowship Award in 2019 during his third year.

Interview invitations to applicants will be sent out starting Aug. 5, 2022 on a rolling process. For the current invitation cycle, all interviews will be performed virtually.
