Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship

About the Program

The Baylor College of Medicine Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, is a one-year (PGY-5) training program providing a comprehensive and evidence-based education in the treatment and research of addictive disorders. Fellows will develop expertise and knowledge in the evaluation, intervention and treatment of addiction using systems-based practice throughout the continuum of care, in collaboration with patients, families and other allied healthcare professionals. Successful completion of the program will qualify fellows to sit for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology’s certification examination in the subspecialty of addiction psychiatry.

The fellowship offers rich experiences in multidisciplinary clinical care as well as clinical research within a broad network of faculty investigators affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine. The Baylor Addictions Research group conducts cutting-edge studies in medication development, such as vaccination treatments for addiction, human pharmacogenetics, human laboratory drug administration studies, neuroimaging and behavioral treatment investigations in substance dependence, PTSD and TBI.

Part of the dynamic Texas Medical Center, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center offers an ideal academic environment for learning within one of the nation’s largest VA hospitals, and in a region with the highest percentage of veterans deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan. These veterans present an especially challenging array of disorders including co-morbid post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and chronic pain in addition to substance dependence.
