Students who withdraw from school, go on a leave of absence longer than 60 days, are dismissed, or otherwise stop attending classes will have their tuition prorated according to the chart below. Tuition will be refunded based on the length of the enrollment period for which the student is charged.

Students who withdraw from school, go on a leave of absence longer than 60 days, are dismissed, or otherwise stop attending classes, will have their tuition and fees** prorated according to the table below. All dates are calculated based on the first date of classes in the enrollment period for which the student was billed (Fall or Spring).

Tuition and Fees Refund Schedule for Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences – Ph.D. and CSTP

Content

Tuition: GSBS Ph.D. and Masters Students who take a leave of absence or for any reason discontinue attending school will have their tuition prorated to the number of months of school attended during the enrollment period for which the student was charged, rounded to the nearest dollar.

Fees: GSBS Ph.D. and Masters Students who graduate, withdraw, or begin LOA within the first two weeks of the enrollment period (Fall or Spring) will be refunded the fees billed for that period. Fees are not refunded to students who cease enrollment after the first two weeks of the enrollment period, except for the Graduation Fee which will is waived in full if a student withdraws.

Health Insurance Refunds – All Students

Content

Health Insurance will be prorated to the number of months during which the student was enrolled during the enrollment period billed. Students who are enrolled in the student health plan prior to their first day of an approved Leave of Absence (LOA) have the option to continue health insurance for a maximum of 12 months following the last day of the month in which their LOA is effective. Students have 31 days from their effective date of LOA to checkout with the HR–Benefits office and elect to continue health insurance. They may do so by submitting a completed “Student Continuation for Insurance while on Leave of Absence” form to the Benefits Office along with a check for the premium for the first month of leave. Thereafter, payment must be made (postmarked) on or before the first of each month for that month’s coverage.

Proration of Financial Aid Funds

Content

Students who receive federal financial aid and do not complete at least 60 percent of the enrollment period for which they were charged are subject to a Return of Title IV funds calculation. The Office of Financial Aid performs this calculation to determine the amount of federal financial aid a student has earned based on the percentage of time remaining in the enrollment period.

If financial aid under the Federal Title IV program was issued to a student during the period of enrollment, any unearned aid will be returned to the lender in the following order:

  1. Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan Program
  2. Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Program
  3. Any other Federal Title IV program
  4. Other federal, state, private or institutional sources
