Baylor genetics experts offer free webinars

Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital will host three webinars in collaboration with the Texas Center for Disability Studies at University of Texas at Austin and the Texas Department of State Health Services to educate the public on genetic developmental disorders. Two webinars will be hosted in English, and one will be hosted in Spanish. The events are:
• Saturday, March 27, 10-11 a.m. – “Size Matters: How Missing or Extra Pieces of DNA can Affect Children”: This webinar in English will focus on 22q11 deletion syndrome, Williams syndrome and 16p11.2 duplication and deletion syndromes. In addition, panelists will discuss the best ways to support children with these syndromes. Speakers for this event are Dr. Chaya Murali, assistant professor of molecular and human genetics at Baylor, and Laura Buckner, program manager of the UT Texas Center for Disability Studies. • Saturday, April 10, 10-11 a.m. – “Mi hijo presenta dificultades en su desarrollo. Porqué asistir con un medico genetista?”: Esta charla en español discute los componentes en el desarrollo de habilidades en niñas y niños y las señales de alerta que indican que la niña o el niño necesita ser valorado por un profesional. Las oradoras de esta charla son la Dra. Lizbeth Mellin-Sánchez, profesora asistente de pediatría en UT Health Rio Grande Valley, y Laura Buckner. Regístrese para el evento aquí.
• Saturday, April 24, 10-11 a.m. – “Fragile X: A Conversation”: This webinar in English will focus on the genetics and care of children and families with Fragile X Syndrome. Speakers for this event are Dr. Daryl Scott, associate professor of molecular and human genetics at Baylor, and Laura Buckner. Register for the event here.
