Youmna Sherif, M.D., global surgery track resident in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, was named a Raleigh Ross Scholar by the Texas Surgical Society at the fall 2022 Texas Surgical Society Meeting in Dallas, Texas in September 2022. The scholars are guests of the society and receive a personalized plaque noting their accomplishments as well as a monetary award. Recipients are chosen because they have demonstrated excellent patient care and leadership during their training. 

As a resident, Dr. Sherif works on community centered projects in Egypt, Uganda, and Malawi. She has also produced 12 publications and presented at multiple national and international conferences. Additionally, she has served as a member of the Ethics Committee at Texas Children's Hospital and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Academic Association of Global Surgery. She was also inducted into the Gold Humanism Society and completed a fellowship with the Global Alliance for Surgery, Obstetric, Trauma, and Anesthesia Care (G4 Alliance).
