Professional Statement
I study how fathers influence their children’s health behaviors to prevent or reverse the intergenerational transmission of obesity, focusing on children aged 5 to 11. This developmental stage represents a critical window for establishing lifelong lifestyle habits due to strong parental guidance and structured routines. My research examines reciprocal reinforcement processes, exploring how fathers can shape obesity-related behaviors and how children can act as agents of change within their families.I use quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches to explore parenting, fatherhood, and family dynamics. By highlighting the often-overlooked role of fathers, my work aims to generate actionable insights for public health strategies targeting Hispanic families and broader populations.
I am trained under the Healthy Dads, Healthy Kids for Hispanics efficacy trial, mentored by Dr. Teresia O’Connor.
