Professional Statement
Dr. Alice Mao’s clinical practice and research has focused in two areas: psychopharmacology (the use of medications to treat mental illnesses) and helping parents of children with autism spectrum disorders and ADHD to integrate behavioral and psychological interventions to help them to function optimally as they transition from adolescence into adulthood. She has chaired and co-chaired Institutes and Master Courses at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry ( AACAP) and the American Psychiatric Association Annual Meetings on reviews of biopsychosocial treatment interventions for autism. In addition she is the Co-Chairman of the AACAP Consumer issues which is involved in providing public educational information on mental illness in the form of Facts for Families and the public access resource centers. She is also actively involved on the Child and Adolescent Steering Committee of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She has published in peer reviewed journals on psychopharmacology research and issues related to parental adjustment when raising a child with autism.Websites
