Professional Statement
Caitlin A. Fitzgerald, M.D., FACS is an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Trauma, Bariatrics, and Acute Care Surgery. She specializes in acute care surgery with a focus on trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care. Dr. Fitzgerald earned her medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in general surgery at Emory University and received advanced training and both trauma and surgical critical care through a fellowship at UT Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital. She is board certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care and joined the Baylor College of Medicine faculty in the fall of 2025.Dr. Fitzgerald has many research interests including trauma video review, trauma outcomes, and surgical resident education. She is the PI for a multicenter trial focusing on low-grade colon injuries and is also the PI of a multicenter trial evaluating trauma ECMO. She is an Associate Member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) and holds a position on the Associate Member Council. She is also actively involved in the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
