Professional Statement
I graduated from Michigan State University in 2023 with a major in Genomics and Molecular Genetics and a minor in Bioethics. During my time at Michigan State University, I began my work in genetics as a research assistant studying immune escape mechanisms in sarcoma cells. During my time in the laboratory, I became fascinated by the intricate mechanisms that drive genetic processes and was inspired to continue growing my education in the field of genetics. Outside of my research role, I worked as a volunteer Crisis Counselor and Medical Advocate with the MSU Center for Survivors. In this role I provided empathetic support and guidance to individuals facing difficult circumstances, fostering a safe environment and advocating for their medical needs. In June 2022, I was given the chance to combine my passions for clinical genetics and research in my role as a Genetic Counseling and Research Assistant at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center. This experience allowed me to observe first hand the meaningful interactions between genetic counselors and their patients, reaffirming my passion for this practice and drawing me further towards my decision to pursue a career in genetic counseling. Now, as a graduate student, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn from the Baylor College of Medicine faculty as I embark on a career dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of genetics and providing guidance to individuals and families navigating the complexities of genetics.
