Professional Statement
Guanxing Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. His research focuses on identifying key mitochondrial regulators that drive endothelial and epithelial cell vulnerability during lung ischemia–reperfusion injury (IRI). He aims to determine whether targeting these mitochondrial pathways can mitigate cellular dysfunction and establish the feasibility of mitochondrial-targeted therapeutic strategies to prevent primary graft dysfunction (PGD) following lung transplantation. Another focus of his research is identifying molecular regulators that contribute to chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD). Guanxing earned his Ph.D. in Genetics and Proteomics from Capital Normal University in China. He completed his postdoctoral training at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where his research focused on integrating mass spectrometry–based proteomic screening with the study of ion channels and their roles in human disease.Selected Publications
