Professional Statement
I was born and raised in Miami, FL. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with minors in psychology and chemistry from Florida State University. During my time at FSU, I worked as a clinical medical assistant in a family care practice and volunteered with Camp Kesem, an organization that supports children impacted by a parent's cancer. This is where I nourished my desire to provide support for patients of all ages.I always had a love for genetics and wanted to enrich my understanding of ongoing research, testing, and treatments after graduating from FSU. I worked as a chemist in Florida's Newborn Screening Laboratory, where my curiosity grew and led me to pursue research. I joined the Zuchner Laboratory at the University of Miami, studying novel variants and gene therapies associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, Ataxia, and Heriditary Spastic Paraplegia. In these roles, I interacted with many genetic counselors who were passionate about helping their patients find answers. They inspired me and showed me the possibility of a career that would allow me to create meaningful connections with patients and also stay involved in cutting-edge genetics research.
Now I begin my journey as a genetic counseling student at Baylor College of Medicine, which I view as the perfect venue to develop the skills necessary for a career in clinic and research. My interests remain in neurology and rare disease, but I hope to explore more disciplines throughout my time in the program. In my free time, I enjoy yoga, playing with my dogs (Steve & Louise), baking, and crochet.
