Professional Statement
Dr. Jeremy L. Ward is an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of General Surgery of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. He is board-certified for both Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. His clinical interests include elective and emergency general surgery, trauma surgery, and the management of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit.Dr. Ward earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with high honors in mathematics at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He then earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He began his general surgery residency at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. During that time, he spent two years as an NIH T32 research fellow studying sepsis in murine models. He completed his final three years of residency training at NYU School of Medicine in New York City where he was chief resident at Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Ward then completed a two year Acute Care Surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, which included a Surgical Critical Care fellowship through the Department of Critical Care Medicine followed by a one year appointment as Clinical Instructor with the Division of Trauma and General Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During this time Dr. Ward obtained additional training in the use of extracorporeal membranous oxygenation (ECMO) in the management of advanced cardiac and respiratory failure through the Department of Critical Care Medicine.
