Professional Statement
In 2018, Dr. Mondal was recruited to join the faculty of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery in Baylor College of Medicine to continue his research in the field of heart failure, heart transplantation and circulatory support. Dr Mondal is an experienced biomedical researcher (Basic Science) in the field of human Heart Transplant (DCD heart) and human Heart Failure (CF-LVADs), small animal surgeries (MI and MCAO), oxidative stress, epigenetic, inflammation, bioinformatics, blood/cardiac damage, thrombosis & Hemostasis, Clinical research, Data science, molecular epidemiology, Immunology, infection, stroke etc. Dr. Mondal have approximately a decade’s worth of experience in the field of human as well as animal biology. Since 2007, he had a broad background in hematology, immunology, toxicology and molecular biology, with specific training and expertise in key research areas including blood damage, platelets and leukocyte biology. After graduating with honors in Zoology (B.Sc.) from Suri Vidyasagar College, University of Burdwan, India, he received his Master degree (M.Sc.) from the same University in 2005 with a specialized degree in Molecular Cancer Cytogenetics and awarded “University Academic Gold Medal” as a first class first student. He also completed Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Cancer Cytogenetics in 2007 from the University of Burdwan, India. During the period of 2007 to 2011, he had successfully completed many research projects in India including ‘indoor air pollution and women’s health’ and ‘drug abuse and child health’. Dr. Mondal came to University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore in 2012 from India, where for the previous two years he was on faculty (Assistant Professor) at the Department of Zoology, Kabi Nazrul College of The University of Burdwan, India. As a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Surgery, University of Maryland, he became acquainted not only with human subject research but also with GLP standard animal studies. His expertise include but are not limited to different techniques of molecular biology, recruitment of participants and patients in the research protocol, collection of biological samples, laboratory techniques involving routine hematology and platelet activity, flow cytometry, western blot, immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence microscopy, ELISA, spectrophotometry and other laboratory experiments involving human as well as animal specimens. Dr. Mondal also actively engaged with different innovative ideas in terms of study design, manuscript preparation and project proposal writing and potential collaboration within areas of interest. Considering research involving blood contacting biomedical devices especially continuous flow left ventricular assist devices, ECMO and cardiovascular health during the period of last several years at United States he published more than 50 full length peer reviewed original research articles and conference abstracts (mostly as a lead author) and some of other publications are awaiting. In 2015, Dr. Mondal moved from University of Maryland to the University of Louisville. There he continued his same research activities at the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Cardiovascular Innovation Institute, University of Louisville, KY, USA. At UofL, he became a full time faculty Assistant professor at the Dept. of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery, University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, KY, USA. His long-term goal is to advance the understanding of biomedical device-induced (shear stress) blood cell dysfunction and to use this knowledge to guide the clinical practice and the design improvement of biomedical devices. Additionally, Dr Mondal currently actively working on the DCD heart transplant research in US scenario.Websites
