Professional Statement
Dr. Sharon Reece is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Medical Director of Simulation for Baylor College of Medicine (Temple Campus). She is cross appointed with Baylor Scott & White Health where she serves as Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Family Medicine (Central Texas Division).Dr. Reece completed her Doctor of Medicine, Family Medicine residency, and Emergency Medicine fellowship at the University of Toronto. She spent the first few years of her career living and practicing full scope Family Medicine in the Arctic and northern Alberta where she cared for the Inuit and Cree First Nations peoples of Canada prior to relocating to the US with her family.
Dr. Reece has held previous clinical and teaching roles at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) where she was Regional Medical Director of Simulation for the College of Medicine, Associate Family Medicine Clerkship Director, and Core Residency Faculty in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She is a recipient of the 2022 UAMS Golden Apple Teaching Award, the highest teaching distinction within the UAMS College of Medicine. She received the Alberta College of Family Physicians Outstanding New Professional Award for her leadership in rural Emergency Medicine during the historic 2019 Alberta wildfires, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada Award for her research in health disparities in 2017.
Her areas of interest include simulation-based education, point-of-care ultrasound, and the care of the underserved.
