He is a physician scientist who focuses on the prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) in cancer patients receiving systemic therapy or undergoing hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT).

Dr. Li’s lab team excels in in conducting clinical epidemiology and health services research using "big data", ranging from administrative claims database from public and private payers to electronic health records (EHR) from multiple U.S. hospital systems. The Li Lab has achieved linkage of clinical/research data among the hospital/regional cancer registry, EHR data warehouse, biobanking repository, and GWAS databases. Dr. Li's team collaborates extensively with researchers in the fields of clinical epidemiology, health economics, clinical informatics, statistical genetics, and translational science, with an ultimate goal to optimally utilize big data arising from EHR toward risk factor/outcome association and prediction for cancer patients in the longitudinal setting.
