At the 2024 Society for Neuroscience (SfN)

Members of the Dr. Yong Xu lab participated in the 2024 Society for Neuroscience (SfN) meeting, held from Oct. 5–9 in Chicago, IL. Postdoctoral fellows Drs. Hesong Liu, Emma Wang, Xing Fang, and Alvin Deng presented their research and attended workshops and events focused on scientific communication, career development, and networking. They received valuable feedback, gained insights into the latest research in the field, and connected with fellow scientists. Additionally, congratulations to Dr. Emma Wang and Dr. Xing Fang for receiving the SfN Early Career Development Award! The event was a highly rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Members of the Xu lab will be attending and presenting their research at the 2024 SfN meeting, scheduled for Oct. 5-9, 2024, in Chicago, IL.

  • Dr. Emma Wang, M.D., Ph.D., will present her research titled “apMPOA Neurons Regulate Male Sexual Behavior”.
  • Dr. Xing Fang, Ph.D., will present his research titled “The Perifornical Area of the Anterior Hypothalamus Regulates Metabolic Balance.”
  • Dr. Yue (Alvin) Deng, Ph.D., will present a poster titled “Dissecting the Role of ERαPOA Neuron Subpopulations in Thermoregulation.”

Both Dr. Xing Fang and Dr. Emma Wang have been selected to receive the Trainee Professional Development Award.

At ENDO 2024

Fellows from the Xu and Wang labs attended and presented their work at the 2024 ENDO meeting, on June 1-4, 2024 in Boston, MA.  

Dr. Lucas Tu, a postdoc from Dr. Yong Xu’s lab, presented his work on Anoctamin 4 in the Area Postrema and the regulation of glucose and energy homeostasis in 2 formats; as a Rapid-Fire presentation as well as a poster presentation. His work was selected for an Endocrine Society Outstanding Abstract Award.

Dr. Yongxiang Li, a postdoc from Dr. Yong Xu’s lab, gave a talk, entitled “Disruption of Transient Receptor Potential Channel 5 Causes Obesity and Maladaptive Behavior”. His work was selected to receive the Eugenia Rosemberg Abstract Travel Award and Outstanding Abstract Award.  He was also selected to give an oral presentation in Rising Star Power Talks and won the Presidential Poster Competition.

Fellows at the Xu and Wang labs will attend and present their work at the 2024 ENDO meeting, being held on June 1-4 2024 in Boston, MA.

  • Meng Yu, Ph.D., will give a short talk, entitled “Hypothalamic Estrogenic Signal Regulates Prolactin Homeostasis and Reproduction in Female”. 
  • Yongxiang Li, Ph.D., will give a short talk, entitled “Disruption of Transient Receptor Potential Channel 5 Causes Obesity and Maladaptive Behavior”. His abstract was selected to receive the Eugenia Rosemberg Abstract Travel Award and Outstanding Abstract Award. 
  • Longlong (Lucas) Tu, Ph.D., will give a rapid-fire presentation, entitled “Anoctamin 4 in the Area Postrema Regulates Glucose and Energy Homeostasis”, and his abstract won an Endocrine Society Outstanding Abstract Award. 
  • Xu Xu, M.D., will present a poster “Ovotesticular Difference of Sex Development: Prognostic Evaluation, Sex Assignment, and Ethics”.
