About the Center
The Baylor College of Medicine Pandemic Threat Technology Center (PTTC) leads and coordinates research and responses to infectious diseases that pose regional and global threats. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has underscored the need for ongoing preparedness at all levels of our healthcare system, and the cutting-edge, translational research platforms at Baylor College of Medicine have been leveraged for detecting, studying, and treating COVID-19 since the virus was originally isolated in December 2019.
As SARS-CoV-2 transitions from a pandemic to an endemic virus, new threats are emerging like Mpox or re-emerging like poliovirus and measles outbreaks. Now more than ever resources are needed to stay ahead of new viral threats with outbreak or pandemic potential. PTTC is developing a translational research program with an emphasis on a rapid diagnostic and clinical response to new threats that emerge at the local, regional, or global level. The rapid response is coordinated through three hubs:
The Administrative Hub coordinates and enhances the pandemic preparedness and research center activities as well as serves as an informational hub throughout Baylor College of Medicine and its affiliates.
The Molecular Diagnostic and Assay Development Hub builds targeted and agnostic diagnostic capabilities against viral threats with pandemic potential.
The Clinical and Translational Research Hub develops IRB-approved umbrella protocols to support the conducting of pilot projects to ensure a rapid clinical research response to viral pathogens with pandemic potential.
Director's Message
Our mission is to provide the infrastructure and assets to support and foster emergent pathogen-related research with pandemic threat potential.
Thank You
Mitigating pandemic threats takes the coordination, collaboration and support of diverse scientific communities with the readiness to respond to emerging viral threats with outbreak potential.
