The fellow will gain exposure to the pediatric glaucoma surgery at the Texas Children’s Hospital. The fellow will also participate and is encouraged to attend regular lectures and conferences within the department including Pathology, Oculoplastics/Oncology, Ethics, Fluorescein Angiography, Neuro-ophthalmology, and Practice Management. The fellow may also avail himself or herself of the expertise and excellence present in other areas within the department.

Within the Glaucoma Service, more than 720 glaucoma surgical procedures are performed yearly as well as numerous laser procedures. The fellow is expected to aid in the interpretation of ancillary tests performed in the Glaucoma Service for referring physicians, allowing extensive experience with both visual fields and optic nerve imaging studies.

The fellow is responsible in part for the patient care and data collection for clinical trials being conducted within the service. Opportunities are also provided in basic laboratory and animal research based on the interests, experience and capabilities of the fellow.
