Life Beyond the Lab
We recognize that all your interests and commitments – whether raising a family, honing musical or artistic talents, competing in sports, or leading community service initiatives – not only make you a better human being; they make you a better scientist.
There is no getting around the fact that earning a Ph.D. is a huge commitment, but you will still have time and opportunity to develop the other aspects that make you who you are.

Health and Wellness
Maintaining your physical and mental health is critical to your success as a student and throughout the rest of your life. Our on-campus gym, physical and mental wellness programs support you throughout your time at BCM.
The city of Houston boasts the highest total acreage of park land among the nation’s ten most populous cities. Outdoor recreational spots include 350 parks; 95 miles of nature, hiking and bike trails; three state parks nearby; and water recreation within a short drive at the Galveston beaches, Clear Lake, Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston.
"The most surprising thing to me about Baylor has been how healthy the environment is. I'm naturally a workaholic. My PI has really been encouraging me to get out of the lab and take care of myself. It has been really great for keeping my stress at healthy levels."
Student Groups
The Graduate Student Council serves as a medium between the students and the graduate school administrative. They organize social activities, charity events, and volunteering opportunities for students.
BCM also has a wide selection of organizations for students to network and socialize with others who share their interests.
"My mom told me I need to work for the tourist office of Houston because I try to convince everyone to move here. I couldn't imagine going back to live somewhere without the diversity of restaurants, events and activities now that I have become accustomed to living in a community with such a rich variety of cultures. Other cities may offer as much to do as Houston, but the extremely low cost of living here means that you can actually take advantage of everything the city has to offer as a graduate student."
Students with Disabilities
BCM is committed to providing equal educational access for qualified students with disabilities in accordance with state and federal laws. Student Disability Services provides students with disabilities access to needed resources so that all students are afforded every opportunity to do their best work.
