Program Overview

Content

The Administrative Fellowship Program at Baylor College of Medicine strives to cultivate new talent in healthcare management through observation, exchange, and hands-on experience. The administrative fellow will have the opportunity to observe, interact, and work with the College's senior leadership. The program provides the fellow with practical experience and leadership development through direct exposure and active participation in projects and high-level management activities throughout the organization. Fellows will be encouraged to set goals that will allow them to grow as healthcare professionals. They will work with their preceptor throughout the year to create an experience that will help the fellow translate their learning into skills that can be used throughout their career.

The fellow will also become a member of the Texas Medical Center Administrative Fellowship Association. This association includes all administrative fellows throughout the TMC. The members of this group have traditionally met once a month for lunch and a meeting with each institution's executive management team. This organization is an excellent way to promote networking skills and learn about the surrounding institutions in the TMC.

Program Objectives

  • Identify promising candidates in healthcare management to mentor and develop for future management and leadership positions.
  • Provide a learning environment enhancing the administrative fellow’s professional development, as well as his/her understanding of Baylor College of Medicine, Baylor Medicine, and its other affiliated clinical and academic partners.
  • Offer the fellow an opportunity to acquire and refine important managerial competencies such as communication, organization, teamwork, and analytical skills.
  • Contribute to the advancement of the College and its missions though active participation in the development and implementation of projects.

Program Governance

The Office of the President administers the Administrative Fellowship Program with the Chief of Staff serving as the formal Preceptor. In addition, the Fellow receives additional support from pre-designated mentors, previous fellows, and other key leaders within Baylor College of Medicine as identified by the Preceptor.
