Texas Children's Hospital

Texas Children's Hospital is one of the largest tertiary care pediatric centers in North America where rotations include Psychiatric Ambulatory Care Clinics and the Consultation and Liaison Service. At the Psychiatric Ambulatory Care Clinics, physicians assess and manage a wide variety of complicated psychiatric and medical conditions including but not limited to: ADHD, mood disorders, movement disorders, autism and pervasive developmental disorders, anxiety disorders, psychiatric disorders that are co-morbid with serious and/or chronic medical diseases (heart, kidney, infectious (HIV), childhood cancer, etc.). The Consultation and Liaison Service includes psychiatric consultation and liaisons with specialty pediatric services. The consultation service provides a wide range of care to pediatric patients with eating disorders, psychosomatic conditions, adaptation to chronic or critical illness, developmental problems, and acute psychiatric disturbance. Child residents will also have the opportunity to participate actively with the Adolescent Medicine’s Eating Disorder Program, an interdisciplinary medical and mental health program. Texas Children's clinics, through two grant mechanisms, is starting tele-psychiatry clinics within area schools hard hit by 2017 Hurricane Harvey. Fellows will participate in these clinical endeavors to gain knowledge and skill for tele-psychiatry encounters.

The Menninger Clinic

The Menninger Clinic for adolescents includes intensive inpatient services and day treatment as well as disorder-specific services for those with eating disorders or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Adolescents come from around the nation and the world to be evaluated and treated by the inpatient services of The Menninger Clinic.

Legacy Community Clinics

Legacy Community Clinics serves as a Federally Qualified Health Center. Legacy provides essential preventive and primary healthcare services at low or no cost. Legacy’s 11 clinics, located in Houston, Baytown and Baker Ripley, served 85,430 patients through 256,108 patient visits in 2013. We offer adult primary care, pediatrics, dental care, vision services, behavioral health services, ob/gyn and maternity, vaccinations and immunizations, health promotion and community outreach, wellness and nutrition, and comprehensive HIV/AIDS care to all Texans, including those who have traditionally faced barriers to healthcare.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services at Ben Taub Hospital, the main public/county general hospital, includes school consultation to Galena Park ISD elementary, junior high and high school students in addition to general pediatric psychiatry ambulatory clinics.

The Mental Health/Mental Retardation Authority offers evaluation and treatment for children and families coping with severe and persistent mental retardation and mental illness in neighborhood-based clinics.

Continuity Clinic

Content

Continuity Clinic offers comprehensive evaluations and outpatient treatment for children and adolescents focusing on psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. Residents have autonomy within this two year clinical experience under the supervision of a faculty member and learn practice management knowledge and skills through a combination of didactics and real time exposure. Sites include the Baylor Psychiatry Clinic, Texas Children's TSPO Medical Home Corinthian Pointe, Texas Children's Autism Center, and Legacy Community Clinic.
