This fellowship provides advanced education in emergency ultrasound (EUS) through hands-on and interactive, didactic educational opportunities.

  • Weekly dedicated scanning shifts in the adult and pediatric emergency departments proctored by EUS faculty
  • Weekly ultrasound video/image review
  • Weekly journal club sessions to discuss cutting-edge ultrasound research/articles
  • Unrestricted use of ultrasound in the emergency department
  • Access to supplemental hands-on training with ultrasound experts from the departments of radiology, cardiology and anesthesia

Content

The fellow assumes a leadership role in ultrasound education within the emergency department and residency.

  • Lectures to residents and bedside teaching during resident/medical student scanning shifts
  • Ultrasound workshops/courses
  • Active involvement in the resident/medical student ultrasound elective

Content

The fellow is expected to complete one publishable original research project during their year of fellowship.

A longitudinal experience providing the fellow with the skills necessary to direct an emergency ultrasound program.

  • Quality assurance of all ultrasound images from the emergency department (with faculty support and supervision)
  • One administrative project

  • 16 hours per week as an attending physician in the emergency department
  • Appointment as Baylor College of Medicine clinical instructor, Department of Emergency Medicine
