Health Equity & Social EM Curriculum
Our educational initiatives provide social context to patient care through an equity and justice lens. Our goal is to provide our departmental community with the knowledge, skills, and increased humility working with a diverse patient population and, in turn, improve the quality of care, health, and well-being of patients.
Goal: To provide learners a comprehensive overview of the social, political, and economic structures that lead to health inequities in diverse and vulnerable populations through didactic teaching, experiential learning, and reflective practice
Objectives: By the end of this curriculum, learners will:
- Develop an increased understanding of health equity across all identity groups (race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, ability, etc.)
- Develop an increased knowledge about the social and structural determinants of health and how they influence health outcomes in individuals and marginalized populations
- Engage in critical self-reflection about biases that may contribute to health inequities
