About the Lab
Loosely modeled on the SCALE-UP classrooms at North Carolina State University, the Collaborative Learning Lab is a technology-enabled active-learning classroom.
Vision and Purpose
The Collaborative Learning Lab is centered around the following themes:
- Experience & Explore
BCM faculty and other course instructors can experience and practice integrating new innovative technologies through educator professional development opportunities and vendor demos.
- Connect, Partner & Support
It’s all here - a space for faculty consultations, educator workshops and self-service recording in Studio One, a fully featured digital video production studio.
- Communicate & Showcase Work
Faculty can display and disseminate their innovative work through webinars and workshops sponsored by and/or in partnership with the Huffington Department of Education, Innovation and Technology.
- Discover, Develop, Improve & Integrate
The space serves as an incubator for educational research, innovative teaching strategies and the integration and use of academic technologies.
What's in the Lab?
The Collaborative Learning Lab is a learning space specifically designed for hybrid and active learning. Its flexible seating/furniture includes seven individual learning pods, each equipped with a microphone and monitor to help facilitate group active learning and collaboration.
Other technologies include the following:
- Large dual-display monitors (2) for presenting.
- Mersive Solstice Pods (7) that support collaboration and enable students and educators to share content, ideas and knowledge in real-time; great for team-based learning and small group work.
- Vibe Smartboard, a digital whiteboard that enables real-time collaboration and interactive teaching, regardless of physical location.
- Motion Tracking Camera that gives educators and facilitators the ability to walk around the classroom during a hybrid workshop while remaining in view for remote participants.
